Luming is currently pursuing his Master of Computer Science degree at NYU, school of engineering. Before coming to New York, Luming got his dual bachelor degrees in Electrical Engineering and E-Commerce in University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, then he spent one year in the computer science department at Texas A&M University. Luming joins EdLab Development & Research Group as an intern in the summer of 2014.
He believes a good computer scientist should have multidisciplinary views, and should be keen to any new trend. Besides his academic degrees in different subject, his previous internship experiences covered multiple areas including finance and computer software. Last academic semester, he worked in the RG/A accelerator in Manhattan, building the backend and front-end of web applications for Keenhome Inc. a company that focus on intelligent home solutions.
Currently, Luming's main interest is educational technology. Last summer, he got involved as an software developer intern in a top venture capital backed start-up “Chaoyouai Educational technology” - the producer of a top English words mnemonic app (Baicizhan
) in China. With some fantastic features, this production helps more than thousands of people learning English every day. During this semester, Luming and his team members at NYU developed an iOS app named “Tutor Me”
which can help student find student tutors around the university. Any student with this app can post questions, get tutored or even be the tutor to others. Ideally, the concept of “Tutor Me” could evolve to be a solution for the lack of student tutors in university’s writing center.
With solid background of CS and higher level academic experience in Machine Learning as well as Natural Language Processing, Luming sees a trend of integration in the education and computer technology. Actually, the revolution is happening - MOOC, social network based learning application, data bsed personalized education and lots more new forms of interactive education. He is passionate to be one of the propellent in this evolution.
