Mabel Zhuang is a M.A. candidate in Teachers College’s Instructional Technology and Media program. She got her B.A. in Political Economy from UC Berkeley. During her undergraduate studies, she worked in various fields as a market researcher at DeMatteo Monness in Shanghai, an intern at a local television station in the Bay Area, and an environmental advocate at the Sierra Club in the Bay Area chapter. She also was a writer, director and actress for three years in a UC Berkeley theater group, Theatre Rice.
After graduation, Mabel became a financial representative associate at Northwestern Mutual working in inside sales, marketing, and client relations and helping clients manage their financial portfolios. It was during this time that she began to do work in education as a part-time tutor and SAT instructor, eventually becoming a contracted admissions consultant for the educational company, ThinkTank Learning. It was working at ThinkTank that fostered Mabel’s passion for education. Now at Teachers College, she is pursuing her interest in technology and education with her current internship with Dr. Ellen Meier, assisting in research in Dr. Meier’s work with the Technology Policy and Planning Council of New York State. She is also currently working with Dr. Joey Lee, assisting in projects with the Games Research Lab and Global Innovations Initiative. This summer, she will be working at an academy in Shandong province in China helping develop an online English curriculum.
