Tavita Ramlakhan was born in Guyana, South America
. At the age of 4, she immigrated to the United States with her grandparents and has lived in NYC ever since.
Tavita attended DeWitt Clinton High School located in Bronx, NY. By implementing a challenging curriculum as well as a sea of clubs, sports and other extracurricular activities, Clinton provided Tavita with the essential tools for being successful in college. At Clinton, Tavita was apart of the Bowling Team and ARISTA National Honor Society. She joined the All Stars Inc., Joseph A. Forgione Development School for Youth (DSY), a leadership and career training program which exposed inner-city youths to corporate America. She also worked part-time at SCORE! Educational Center (Kaplan), tutoring young kids. After SCORE!, Tavita spent the next five years working with children at various programs. Although she likes working with kids and sees it as a definite possibility working with them in the future, Tavita believes exploring other career paths is essential to finding her true passion in life.
Tavita is currently a junior at Fordham University (Fordham College of Liberal Studies), majoring in Psychology and minoring in Biology. Tavita is so far having the best experience at Fordham. She loves taking night classes because she is in fact a night owl and is definitely more alert in class. What’s especially great about the professors at FCLS is that they have a career related to the courses they teach and so the professors are not only going by the textbooks, they’re providing students with everyday life experiences. Also, Tavita finds taking classes with older students who have full-time jobs and have families and still manage to dedicate their time to school motivates her to do her best and reinforces that hardwork is the key to one’s success in life. Tavita recently made the Dean’s List and will continue to strive for her best and accept nothing less.
Tavita loves school and does not see a day when it will not be a part of her life. She feels truly blessed having the opportunity to educate herself and constantly encourages the younger kids in her family to take full advantage of their education. As for her future career endeavors, Tavita continues to explore her plethora of options and wants to continue in the direction of Human Anatomy/Physiology.
