Sheick Wattara was born in New York City but spent the early part of his childhood in Ohio before moving back to the city. He is currently a rising senior at the Urban Assembly School for Applied Math and Science and will receive an Advance Regents Diploma in 2011. At Urban Assembly, he is a Gear-Up Intern and participate in varsity basketball, cross country and track & field. Sheick has also performed in front of crowds as a salsa dancer.
He is fluent in French and won a Certificate D'Honneur for placing 14th in a national french contest in 2008. Outside of school, he also plays for South Bronx United Soccer Club as a striker. His favorite sports team is Chelsea FC and is an ardent supporter of the Ivory Coast's Mens National soccer team. His role model is Chelsea and Ivory Coast player Didier Drogba.
Sheick is working on an inventory project at the EdLab this summer. In that capacity, he is charged with archiving curriculum materials from the early 20th century in order to make it more accessible online. He is looking forward to acquiring new skills and ideas in areas such as Technology Architecture, Video Productions, Software Engineering and make full use of his time at the EdLab.
He plans on majoring in engineering with special interest in aerospace engineering, natural resource engineering and/or metallurgical engineering. His hopes to one day receive his license which will allow him to fly multi-engine aircrafts and learn all the technology that is involved in aviation.
