EdLab Seminar: MindRight: Using technology to create culturally responsive, trauma-informed spaces for youth of color
Note: This event will be held in the Smith Learning Theater.

Technology is often seen as the means to increase access - to education, healthcare, etc. But when it comes to supporting youth of color, "accessibility" goes beyond physical access. It requires cultural responsiveness so that youth feel that the service or product "gets them." MindRight is a tech + social justice nonprofit with the mission to empower youth of color to heal from trauma from systemic oppression, including structural violence, poverty, and racism. We support youth directly by providing daily mental health coaching over text message to teens. We also empower school and city partners with data to drive systems change. Our vision is to use technology to create opportunities for systemic healing for communities of color across the country. In this seminar, we explore how we can leverage technology to provide healing spaces for youth at scale as well as help schools transform to be student-centered, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed learning spaces.
