Hey all, hope all is well. Happy holidays and such. Just wanted to introduce you to brooklyn mobile, the latest incarnation of the broadcaster project. It's basically my laptop on a cart with a box around it. I walk around downtown brooklyn with it. Skye has some footage of that but in the meantime I thought I would share a short selection of videos from the booth.
Hey all, Like Jeannie(her blog post), I am also submitting a Knight New Challenge grant. It's based around the broadcaster idea, public videobooths, etc., in the context of a local small business. Some practice video pitches I made:
ok. so i installed a really simple booth in the first floor lobby. i even got a couple people to use it. ;) i'm taking off until next monday but both brian and molly know how to restart it if it goes down. i will be working with gonzalo and the rest of the design team to make a pretty version to live there ...

There is a very loud piece of posterboard in the meeting area. It's the temporary frontpiece for the current broadcaster. It's my way of guaranteeing that I get EdLab design help for the October install in the library. ;) But the installation is working and you should all try it out. The channel is here: http://youtube.com/user/edlabbroadcaster and is mostly just videos of me testing the machine and uploading. But here's how you can help. Ask a question about something you're interested in. Maybe someone else in the lab knows about it as well? Post a quick summary of a meeting you just had ...

So after lots of questions and really good discussions with EdLab members, I have pretty much focused my efforts down to the idea of concentrating on videobooth style installations for the library and EdLab. I will still be presenting some other documentation of my process as well. Why a videobooth? Videobooths are not particularly new and most people have some sort of videobooth software on their computer. Many also often have the ability to upload from their phones. But as you all know, video is time confusing and tough to produce. Given this, how do we establish a hi-bandwidth(lots of us...

Please click the above image to see it full size. This is a simple prototype I made to demonstrate a web service I would like. Apologies for the sloppy design but hopefully the point is illustrated. I am interested in documenting process and sharing information. This is all part of my
Two videos I really like about the power of bringing more voices into the game. Also, these make me think, what are the defining characteristics of success in the web environment? Success is usually about removing barriers to information sharing and lowering the bar so that many people can participate (YouTube/Flickr/Facebook/Blogger/Twitter/Digg/Delicious/Wikipedia/etc...). This can create lots of "garbage", but it also creates a very rich environment for observation. It also empowers individuals to self organize without larger structures.
Hello all. I'm one of the new artists in residence. If you see me around the lab, please say hello. Like most of us, I'm a copious internet user. I've recently come to think of the internet as a gigantic lab notebook for everything I'm thinking about and doing. It's always amazing how much I forget. Given this, how can I leave myself a trail of crumbs to help me remember how I got here? And why not leave this trail open so others can take a peek and give me relevant advice they might have? ( My EDAR project is also focused on analyzing the benefits of open access but more on that later. ) ...
