This is another video regarding my topic on child development. The video offers some answers to the debate on nature vs. nurture. Nature is the effect of the environment on a child's behavior. Nurture is the effect of the parents and other guardians on the child's behavior. I believe it's a bit of both. A child is a product of his or her environment, but at the same time they need guidance, which is the role of parents. I would like to hear other people's opinion regarding this topic. Feel free to comment on the video.
This is another video concerning my theme on psychology. This video shows how people's awareness is sometimes tested. In the video, a teacher gives a lecture to students about someone who cheated on an exam. The teacher walks around the classroom and naturally as a viewer, your eyes follow whatever is moving. As he moves to the other side of the room, various things change around the classroom right when the viewer is not paying attention to the surrounding. Feel free to comment your thoughts on Vialogues and keep the discussion going.
This week in my psychology class, we were asked to do a research topic of our choice. I wanted to focus more on behavior psychology so someone in class introduced me to an article called 10 Psychological Studies That Will Change What You Think You Know About Yourself. The article highlighted various behavioral experiments and list conclusions to each experiment. For example, an experiment was conducted to show how power corrupts people even when it is not a large amount. In the experiment, two stud...
This is another video concerning my theme on Psychology. This video looks at people's natural reaction to bystanders. The video starts with a man who appears to be homeless pretending to be in pain and agonizingly screaming. Most people just watched and ignored his cries for help. When the same person changed his attire, now wearing a suit and lying down on the floor screaming, people surround him in a few seconds to check on his well being. What do you think is the cause of this? Do you think a person's appearance plays a big part in how society sees them?
Child abuse has become very prevalent over the years. According to this article, child abuse affects the brain development of the abused. As a result, children are more valuable to diseases such as depression, addiction and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The results are from a study conducted by researchers at Harvard University. The study consisted of 200 people who had suffered some sort of abuse during their childhood. 53% of participants had suffered from depression and 40%...
The video below is based on my theme concerning many aspects of Psychology. This psychological experiment focuses on behavior. In this video, two people are standing on opposite sides of each other and are pretending to hold a rope. The experiment is showing that the average person's natural reaction is to go around whatever is in front of them. Later on in the video, the two men also test the experiment on a moving object. As their hypothesis concludes, the car stopped.
Most children are influenced by their parents. This is not surprising as they live with their parents for the early years of life. So when parents divorce, it may cause some psychological effects on the child. According to the Psychological Effects of Divorce on Children, divorce often times causes stress for the child and that stress can lead to other psychological diseases such as depression, substance abuse and other anxieties. Divorces are not always a negative thing. A divorce can be be...
“Children are our future” is one of the most used quotes of all time. In my Psychology class, we've been learning about child development. At an early age, children are made aware of right and wrong. It's the duty of parents to guide and shape their children into productive citizens that will contribute to society. When children can't learn to focus or interact in their surroundings, it effects their development. The video below shows a child categorization inability. It shows that some children take time with development. One thing that I would suggest with this experiment is having two p...
Living in an urban community may affect your physical health. According to Urban Health and Physical Activity, there are not many physical and recreational activities common in urban areas. One of the reasons is the easy accessibility of transportation. That being said, a person's environment affects their physical fitness as in urban areas, street alignment often results in fewer or more steps. “Streets organized in a grid pattern” results in more frequent walking. Physical activity and physical environment are two aspects that wor...
This is my second post on my new series concerning environmental psychology. Music plays a part in how some of us get through the day. According to Social Statics, 51% of people listen to music every day. In my Psychology class, we conducted an experiment where we measured the heart rate of students listening to various songs. The experiment concluded that students who listened to high tempo songs, had a higher heart rate than students who listened to slow tempo songs. Since there is a high volume of people listening t...
