Stop-And-Frisk Tactics Violate Rights?
Earlier this week, US District Judge Shira A. Scheindlin ruled that the NYPD's controversial Stop & Frisk program was illegal as it violated the rights of New Yorkers. In her opinion, Scheindlin held that:
In their zeal to defend a policy that they believe to be effective, they have willfully ignored overwhelming proof that the policy of targeting `the right people' is racially discriminatory.
I believe that she should have never mentioned this. Stop-and-frisk has proven to reduce crime. Also it does not violate the constitution, and it has caught some criminals. Yes the number of criminals that have been caught are not high, but something is better than nothing. These criminals can still be out free if it wasn't for stop-and-frisk program. The Vialogue I have uploaded show a discussion of the decision and its implications for the program moving forward.
