About the Art Commission
Made possible by a trust founded by Col. Eugene Myers, which funds art education initiatives at Teachers College, the Gottesman Libraries Art Commission has brought relevant art content to the patrons of the Gottesman Libraries for years.
The aim of the Gottesman Libraries Art Commission is to create art experiences in the library that present themes of education, learning and libraries through innovative work. In the last few years an effort to incorporate interaction and technology has been made in order to expose audiences to ideas and methods that are not part of traditional educational curriculum.
Library Art Spaces for the Commission
The Gottesman Libraries are home to a variety of potential art spaces that vary from traditional galleries, highly trafficked group work rooms to state-of-the-art multimedia environments. Artists applying for the Myers Art Commission are highly encouraged to visit the Library and explore the possibilities.
The following are some of our most successful art spaces to consider.
- The Kasser Art Space - 1st Floor, Library Entrance
- Collaboration Space - 2nd Floor
- The Zen Garden - 2nd Floor rest area
- The Offit Gallery - 3rd Floor
- The Smith Learning Theater - 4th Floor
- The Library Stacks - 2nd - 5th Floors
*The Gottesman Libraries Art Commission will work with all artists to find the best place to install artwork - it is not necessary to determine final location before applying.
For information about art at the Library before 2010 please contact a librarian through the Gottesman Libraries website
