institutional archive. This is a great way to make your work part of the life of the College.
But, you ask, what constitutes the life of a college? What documents best convey the rich history and unique perspective of the world's only stand-alone graduate school of education? What tools can we use to share these primary sources with each other and the world of scholarship? What strategy can we implement to grow the historical record while we live it?
Broadly defined, the College's archives cover the manuscript collections of the faculty; the inactive business records of administrative offices and academic departments; the documentation and work products of centers and institutes; and records of student organizations.
Selecting appropriate material for the permanent public record from thousands of reports, memos, worksheets, drafts, office files, ledgers and other administrative files is a task requiring both thoughtfulness and familiarity with local, state and Federal regulations. While all records are useful to the institution at some time, all records are not useful or appropriate for the historical record. Judicious development and application of departmental and office record retention policies simplify selection and protect privacy.
