Talking Tech: "Kids, Interactivity, and Creativity"

Content needs a learning message, and it is our job as educators to make it engaging and hopefully inspirational – in more creative words, ishful. A dog does not need to look like a dog, but can look “doggish.” You can learn animation in a snap,  math and reading with the help of a green-eyed, underground monster. So advocates Gary Goldberger, one of the Co-Founders & President of Fablevision, a “social change agency” that creates award-winning new media and motivates all learners -- and teachers -- to reach their full potential. Gary gives examples of “stories that matter, stories that move,” as he leads us on a short journey to discover two new educational tools: Animation-Ish, an enjoyable resource for quickly learning the art of animation, and Lure of the Labyrinth, a fun multi-million dollar online game that teaches middle school math and literacy. The latter stems from a Department of Education-funded project created in partnership with Massachussetts Institute of Technology and Maryland Public Television. Gary Golberg manages complex, large-scale multimedia initiatives, including the Generation Cures transmedia project with Children's Hospital Trust, which uses animation, online games, and graphic novels to encourage philanthropy in kids and families. One of the leaders of Games for Change-New England, Gary speaks nationally about the positive uses of gaming in education and other pro-social applications when he is not lodged on the sixth floor of the Children’s Museum in Boston, the home of Fablevision. He graduated from Clark University with a degree in Physics and Studio Art.
