Learning Theater Spotlight: Visual Research for Social Change Conference

Traditionally, data collection and analysis for qualitative research has been limited to interviews and transcripts. But as society becomes increasingly globalized and sense making occurs through more and more visual and digital means, qualitative research methodologies expand to include photography, dance, performance art, documentaries, and digital data just to name a few. The Visual Research Center for Education, Art & Social Change at Teachers College is committed to enhancing visual research for social justice, social change, and education across all disciplines. Headed by Associate Professor of Physical Culture and Education Laura Azzarito, Professor of Art and Art Education Mary Hafeli, Associate Professor of Art and Art Education Olga Hubard, and Associate Professor of Social Studies Education, Sandra Schmidt, the institution hosted their second Visual Research for Social Change (VRSC) Conference in the Smith Learning Theater. The event joined together faculty members, graduate students, artists, and practitioners in an effort to disseminate valuable visual research in new and groundbreaking ways.
