Student Mental Health

Mental health has been in the news a lot lately for all the wrong reasons. The suicide of famous people has brought mental health to the front pages. Most people who suffer from mental health sometimes don’t look for help because they fear society will judge them. How then can we talk about mental health?

New York State recently made a law that will require schools to teach and discuss mental health. It will be the first time mental health is part of the school curriculum. The reason for this new law is that hopefully students who have mental health will be able to talk about it and get the help they need. By seeking and getting help, students who suffer from mental health this will also help improve the academic performance of students who suffer from mental health. There are a lot of challenges some students go through that takes a toll on them, some physical others mentally.

How should schools include mental health as part of their overall curriculum?
