Students seem to be finally coming around to the idea that their social media posts can have far-reaching consequences. The days of unfiltered statuses and posts may be coming to an end as students “brand” themselves, according to the author of this op-ed. As social media has permeated almost every facet of our lives, colleges and employers also use it as part of their criteria for admission and employment. This has forced students to clean up their social media accounts. They have become more responsible and self-aware of the risks of posting certain things on social media. Students have become experts in branding themselves to potential colleges and employers.
Do you agree with the author’s assessment about students’ social media use? Do you consciously pay attention to how your social media posts might be viewed?
