In America, most professional athletes usually gain their notoriety through school. Superstars such as Tiger Woods (Stanford University), Michael Jordan (North Carolina), and Tom Brady (Michigan) gained their first taste of spotlight at their respective colleges. Therefore, it is safe to say that most athletes therefore understand the importance of education. Lebron James, who was drafted straight out high school into the NBA, is set to open a school in his native Akron, Ohio. Though he didn’t attend college, James understands that most students in Akron and other working class communities across the country will never see a professional contract. His I Promise School, working in conjunction with Akron Public Schools, is set to open in Fall 2018 for third and fourth graders. There are plans to have grades one to eight established by 2022.
