What's Your Attention Span?
Check out this paper from the HP Information Dynamics Laboratory. The researchers, Fu and Huberman, conduct an analysis of Digg to explore the dynamics of collective attention in the virtual sphere. They discovered that most stories in Digg lost their "novelty appeal" within 69 minutes. This finding is not surprising given the way that Digg organizes it stories. However, the researchers assert that the results can also be interpreted to reflect the "attention span" of Digg users. The findings of their research underscore the significance of both website content and design. I suspect that our analysis of the TCR website will echo the results of the Fu and Huberman study.
