Screens Behind Bars
Reform continues to dominate conversations in criminal justice circles. Rehabilitation has shown some positives effects when it comes to recidivism. The US still has the highest incarceration rates among developed nations. Recidivism in most countries has decreased due to educational programs that enlighten inmates about basic life skills and in most cases to teach vocational skills. This prison in England has started a program that uses technology to engage people in prisons. Prisoners are allowed to watch one television channel that airs education related programs. Inmates also learn about current events while engaging in intellectual discussions that might even make them potential employees upon their release. I believe a tougher justice system is one that ensures there is minimal or no repeat offenders through the use of education and technology.
