The Impact of Education Technology
Camfed is an international non-profit that "invest in girls and women in the poorest rural communities in sub-Saharan Africa, where girls face acute disadvantage, and where their education has transformative potential.” Camfed is carrying out this quest with technology through a partnership with Worldreader, another international non-profit founded by former Microsoft executive David Risher. The two non-profit companies are using eReaders and other mobile technologies to distribute books in the poorest rural districts in some African countries. They are starting with 25 schools, and 50 eReaders, with 100 books to each school. This is a way of building a large library with archives that are universally accessible. The content of the books will be in English, which will help them become fluent in another language.
