"Libraries are essential for creating and maintaining a democracy..." "The library system used to be a primarily transactional experience. In order to stay relevant and respected, we need to change this transactional experience into a transformational experience... a place where people feel comfortable and supported and valued.." "Wide-scale collaborations are essential - we can do things together that we can’t do alone ..instead of separately creating the exact same apps, codes, and technologies, we can combine our collective brain power to create an infrastructure that benefits every library, museum, archive, etc.. "Afterward, I made my way to the Emerging Leaders poster session where I met up with Laura, Meredith, and Alex. The session featured research from really some cool library projects happening around the country. We also made a quick stop at the LITA networking event to check out some of their exhibits.
"Recovering the Classics" was a beautiful exhibit put on by GitHub, reimagining the book covers of classic titles like Oliver Twist and Dante's Inferno! Finally, the librarian team headed over to the Zine Pavilion to swap some awesome zines and network with fellow librarians!
Today's schedule (6/27) is a jam-packed day of data analysis and privacy concerns, creating dynamic learning spaces within the library, and tips/tricks for collection development! Look forward to reporting back!
