Turning Down Bonus to Help Others
We need change in the world we live in today, and most importantly we need someone who will step up for the change. Santa Ono, president of University of Cincinnati, has refused every annual bonus he has been offered since 2012. Every year, he donates his salary. This year was no different. He donated $10,000 to the family of a Cincinnati police officer who died on duty and the remaining $190,000 was offered as scholarships. This came as a surprise to the board of trustees who expected the president to accept the bonus after years of rejection. He received nothing but praise from the board. President Ono’s generosity for three straight years is now seen as an annual tradition.
