First Lady and Girls Education
It seems the worldwide campaign to empower young girls through education is gaining momentum by the day. Malala Yousafzai’s attempted assassination and her recent win as Nobel Prize winner coupled with the abduction of 200 young girls In Nigeria by Boko Haram have brought girls education to the global forefront. It is in this spirit that First Lady Michelle Obama, along with UK government, have pledged support the Let Girls Learn initiative. The initiative, with an initial funding totaling $200 million, plans to continue support for girls education all across the globe. The initiative will focus primarily on girls aged 10-18.
