Heather Gilchrist, Founder of Socratic Labs, the group's Associate Director, Ash Kaluarachchi, as well as one of the hosts of the NYEdTech Meetup, Sharon La Day (here is an EdLab blog post on one of their recent Meetups @ Knewton), are hosting an ed-focused "Startup Weekend" at Alley NYC.

The event will be sponsored by the DOE's Innovate NYC Schools program, Alley NYC and VC firm, RK Adler. Educators, designers, developers and marketers are invited to participate (registration costs are listed here) in this weekend-long ideas "hackathon" which starts the evening of Friday, March 1st and continues with daily ideation, pitch and "hack" sessions (view the schedule here) through the evening of Sunday March 3rd.

Startup Weekends have been held around the world since 2011 and are described on the main site as:

Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs with over 400 past events in 100 countries around the world in 2011.
