In 2011, the United states women's soccer team put up a splendid performance to reach the final in the Women's World Cup final held in Germany. However, they came up short as Japan defeated them to take the trophy. The game had to be settled on penalties after a dramatic 2-2 draw in normal time. Penalty kicks ended up a tragedy for the USA as they missed their first three attempts with Japan scoring 3 out of their first 4 attempts.

A year later however, these two teams will met again in the ongoing summer Olympics in London. The match between the two teams yesterday was no ordinary game but another entertaining and intense Final . This "The Clash of the Titans" gave team USA the chance to redeem themselves and avenge their lost in the World Cup last summer. The United States brought their winning boots on this time and beat Japan in normal time by 2 goals to 1 to take the gold. Sweet revenge for the American ladies while Japan tasted defeat.

I do believe the USA woman's soccer is the best team in the world currently. I personally think that in any competition what so ever the team who has recently won the most wanting or competitive cup should be named the best.

Jeff, Tam USA women soccer team did great at the Olympics. They were unmatched by the other teams except for the Canadians in the semis, which they narrowly won 4-3 at the death. Overall, they are the best womens team in the world.

Can you say they are the best women's soccer team in the world already? They've only won the Olympic Gold medal, I believe they lost to Japan in the 2011 women's world cup. So are they the best team in the world?

I understand what you are saying, but I don't think that way. A team who can win the world cup and defend it the next time around will no doubt be the best. It's just hard to measure who is the best in soccer since anyone can win at whatever time.

Good to see the U.S womens soccer team avenge their heartbreaking loss to the Japanese during the 2011 world cup final. I am begining to wonder how come the U.S men's team aren't as good as the women's team?

I totally agree with you. The women's team have great potential and making it to the final back to back in two major tournaments, they're definitely a team to watch out for

I agree with both of you. The U.S female has great potential and high chances of winning any tournament coming up for them. I also wish soccer had more attention in the states. Both the male and female team have players with a lot of skills and can make history. Why do you think it is taking so long for soccer to grow here?
