National Security Agency Director Gen. Keith Alexander (and head of the U.S. Cyber Command) was at DefCon, one of the largest hacker conventions in Las Vegas, Nevada, on a recruiting mission:

"In this room, this room right here, is the talent our nation needs to secure cyberspace... We need great talent. We don't pay as high as everybody else, but we're fun to be around."

You can learn more about the NSA's needs by visiting their Careers Page.

The story reminds me of the time Professor Natriello proposed the development of an online "School for Hacking" to the National Science Foundation (NSF) over a decade ago. For reasons I can't understand (it's actually Classified), the project did not get funding.

Hui Soo, this is a fascinating issue... how to take "black hat" hackers and harness their skills to become "white hat" hackers working for national cyber security. This model is at work at Russian security firm Kaspersky. Learn more here. I particularly like the NSA's description of one of the benefits of the NSA as being: "You have a thing for the pleasantries of a full-time job." Hmmm I think they might need a new writer! But seriously, I wonder how we could create an extra air of excitement and mystery around job postings for the EdLab? Enjoy being an EdTech Agitator? New Learning Ninja???
