Over the past couple of days, I've been developing an mSchool course on Google search strategies. My search research led me to an exciting and totally geeky discovery. Today Google released the first class of their inaugural Power Searching with Google course. Anyone can sign up to take the free course and become a search expert in two weeks.

Power Searching with Google

Course Details:

  • Six 50-minute classes.
  • Interactive activities to practice new skills.
  • Upon passing the post-course assessment, a printable Certificate of Completion will be emailed to you. (I wish there was a badge I could add to my new backpack instead.)
  • Registration is open from June 26, 2012 to July 16, 2012.
  • New classes will become available Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
  • Course-related activities will end on July 23, 2012.
  • I'm doing it, and I just wanted to spread the word, in case you're interested in joining the fun! And by fun, I mean learning.

you mean there's more to it than just using Google Advanced Search? a partially ignorant, partially rhetorical question on my part...

i'm curious how google can fill six 50-minute classes... keep us posted Rebekah! a geeky find indeed!

Thanks for sharing! This sounds awesome. I always love it when I find another helpful trick on how to search google!

I once heard about a game called "google golf." Where people try to get a "hole in one" which is when you search something on google and you get a single result back! Anyway, this made me think of that game for the first time in years!

I am definitely interested in learning how to be an expert google searcher!!

Wow! I've never experienced a "hole in one" on Google. But I have played A Google a Day...

You should get a badge for another awesome blog post. It would be worth taking notes on this and incorporating the skills imparted here into future presentations that we, as librarians, will likely have to pass down to young, malleable minds. Good find!
