Hi Everyone! I wanted to enlist the "Group Genius" of the EdLab to provide feedback for the EdTech Talk series of interviews I have been conducting with the help of the video team over the past few months (and now Janice!). The idea was first proposed in November of 2011 in this blog post.

Here are the original goals of the "talks":
1) To provide another avenue for sharing edupreneur's stories beyond the seminar... and to leverage Vialogues as the perfect platform for sharing these stories!

2) To generate content for NLT, LaunchPad "Edcubation" initiatitives and mSchool courses focused on edupreneurship.

An evolution...
The talks evolved from audio interviews that I "animated" using PowerPoint! Like this:

To in-person interviews like this - conducted with a flipcam and DIY background (note the light's go-off in this room & needed to be edited-out!):

To the final evolution! Here is a recent example with Henrik from Readmill!

Feedback and Question Bank:
Both Michelle and Janice had the great suggestion to create "question bank" of "go-to" queries for these interviews and I thought I would take a shot at sharing what I have generally asked so far and would love your feedback and additional ideas! What do you want to know from a founder? Burning questions for the edupreneurship-minded?

Current EdTech Talk "Go-to" Questions:

1) Your “early stage” experience founding _______?
2) __________'s "origin story?"
3) What advice would you give to an edupreneur just starting-out in the space?
4) Who or what was most helpful to you when you were first starting-out? Mentors? VC/legal advice?
5) What specific learning objectives does ___________ address?
6) What value do you provide to teachers, learners and schools?
7) Why Silicon "Alley" and not the "Valley?"
8) What is unique about the new edtech scene?
9) What trends are you noticing in the field?
10) Where do you imagine ____________ will be as a company in 6 mos?
11) Wildcard! What do you listen to in the office? What is your favorite founder bio? Do you subscribe to the Steve Jobs school of management? If ____________was a movie what would it be called?

Thank you for your thoughts and along with Janice, Luke and Daniel's great ideas for the design and production I think we will have some really great content!

Good work with these talks Kate ! I am sure this is going to be a very valuable resource.
Your current question set looks good. Some additional questions that come to my mind:

How did you find your partner/co-founder ? What are essential things to keep in mind when looking for team-mates for your startup ?

What is the next big disruption you imagine in ed-tech ? (another version of question 8 & 9)

How did you find initial adopters for your product ? How did you build those relationships? How did you sell your product ?

What tools and software do you use for development, design and product management ?

Do you have any favorite ed tech events that you participate in or would like to recommend to other edupreneurs ?

Megha, thank you for this feedback! Also, great additional questions... especially, "how did you find your co-founder (when applicable & often it is!)?" Finally, great reminder re: the back-end framework, valuable events in the edtech community and team structure!

EdTech Talks has come so far! It looks so much more polished now. Really great job to everyone involved. (Although the split screen still is kind of funny to me :P)

I think your current bank looks really great, Kate! I'm struggling to come up additional questions. Hmm.. What if you asked them more q's about themselves? Something like:
1) What is a lesson you learned the hard way?
2) What is one of the most embarrassing experiences you've had (that you're willing to share) as an entrepreneur?
3) Who do you admire?
4) What do you do in your free time? Do you even HAVE free time?
5) Entrepreneurship has its ups and downs-- perhaps more downs than ups! When you are at a down point, what drives you? What keeps you going?

Again, great job thus far and I'm looking forward to watching the constant evolution of EdTech Talks!

I agree with Jo, what a fantastic evolution! The improved EdTech Talks format looks great, like something I would actually want to watch.

I'm curious to hear the rationale behind the split screen? Is it just to fit more face into the space? Or is there potential for splicing together a long distance conversation? It does make it a little weird to watch at first, but I got used to it.

As for the question bank, I think those are insightful questions, and I like Jo's suggestions for adding a more personal glimpse at the person behind the entrepreneur.

My only other thought was wondering if you could add a little EdLab logo in the corner to "brand" the interview? Or maybe just a brief logo during the intro and end of the "EdLab Edtech Talk."

Rebekah, thank you for your feedback! I am really happy you feel the newest v. of the talks are something you would want to watch! I hope we can take them even further! Also, I like the post-production pointer re: branding with our logo! Thanks again!

Jo, thank you for this valuable feedback and encouragement for the team! I think the idea of delving into more "personal" questions is a really excellent new direction... people are after-all naturally very curious about what makes these mythical entrepreneurs tick!
