This is so cool! I'm definitely saving this onto my computer. Additionally, there's also a school of thought that talks about how gender has a huge implication in the way one runs and hence the way running shoes should be designed. A friend of mine did a presentation about the topic for a gender studies seminar and it was very fascinating. Here's a website detailing some aspects of the issue:

Wow I just learned so much about running shoes. I feel like such an informed consumer now! Great timing, too— I'm in the market for new shoes. Granted, I'm not going through a pair every 4 months (uh... closer to year? No, I'm just kidding. ...More like 2) but now I know what to look for. Thanks, Rebekah!

I second Jo's vote of most helpful infographic related to footwear! And sadly haven't replaced my "running (walking!)" shoes for quite some time... great inspiration!
