To make the history of educational research more accessible, EdLab produces videos in partnership with the Gottesman Libraries. "Legacy for a Campus" honors Edmund W. Gordon’s life and work in educational research. The video runs 7 minutes in length.

This video focuses on three aspects of Dr. Gordon’s work: 1) the origination of the idea of supplementary education in his Teachers College dissertation (1957), 2) his development of the Institute for Urban and Minority Education (IUME), and 3) his relationship with his family.

Dr. Gordon, founder of IUME, has been a lifelong champion of "supplementary education" — the idea that children must be enveloped by a scaffold of caring community and family to ensure that out-of-school educational experiences positively shape their intellectual development and well-being. He was named a special advisor to The Campaign for Educational Equity at Teachers College, and Teachers College dedicated the Edmund W. Gordon Campus on December 15th, 2005. For more on Dr. Gordon’s legacy, see IUME’s website.
