Abstract: The purpose of this study is to explore how classroom blogs are adopted by teachers as a pedagogical and instructional resource. Specifically, we examine classroom blogs and their multimedia features to assess their potential for: 1) enhancing student’s educational experiences; 2) facilitating communications among teachers, students, and parents; 3) supporting collaborations; and 4) providing self-directed learning opportunities. Through an investigation of media structures, subject, content, and grade levels on 60 K-12 classroom blogs that are most-actively-used as reflected in Google Search results, we highlight variations in utilization of these resources. We conclude with a discussion of the implications for using blogging for future teaching and learning.
